Teaching is My Passion
All of my adult life, I’ve taught. I love teaching! When I graduated from Georgia State University in 1992, I had a History Degree and a Secondary Education Certification. My dad was a teacher, my cousin was a teacher, two great aunts were teachers. Teaching was just in my blood. Then…I started teaching in an American public, secondary school. My students were great! I loved teaching them. The rest of the job, though, was not for me.
After my experience in K-12, I went to work in a bank, and quickly became the corporate trainer for all tellers. Then, I got married, and my husband encouraged me to get a graduate degree. Little did he know that I would keep going to earn a terminal degree.
I’ve taught now in higher education for the last 22 years; 17 of those in online/distance education. Once again, I love my students and seeing them grow in their chosen fields. Since CoVid-19 shut down our education system for roughly a year (more in some places), I’ve felt an urge to do something more…to contribute more…to help more students…to work with more peers. I started The Higher Ed Ally with a hope of bringing education to students anywhere in the world, and to encourage college and university faculty members to embrace online education.
Success at The Higher Ed Ally would mean that clients that work with The Higher Ed Ally will learn information that makes online teaching more comfortable for faculty, so they can be more confident working in the platform. It would also mean that students who work with us will have the tools to help them enter an online course ready for success!
When I’m not working with clients, writing blog posts, or doing research, I continue to teach online courses in History as an adjunct faculty member. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family attending concerts, traveling, and just hanging out together.
